That’s figuratively speaking of course. But truth be told, all our amassed green coffee knowledge & know-hows, passed from generation to generation, is here to help deliver the liquid gold that makes consumers tick.
The blood, sweat & tears of Yeo Choon Bok.
Our story began in the 1960s when Yeo Choon Bok & his wife, like most immigrants then, migrated to Singapore for a better future.
He landed a job as an assistant storekeeper for a coffee trading house and slowly climbed his way up to eventually become a warehouse manager.
The labour-intensive work was exhausting and he didn’t earn much. But he had 10 children to feed so he had no choice but to persevere. The family had to survive from pay cheque to pay cheque. Times were tough & to help make ends meet, his children had to earn their keep by picking defects out of coffee beans when they weren’t in school.
Over time, the coffee trading house became one of Asia’s biggest trading firms. Sensing an opportunity, Choon Bok encouraged Henry, one of his sons, to join the company as a storekeeper.
The tenacity of Henry Yeo.
From his starting position as a storekeeper, Henry worked in store operations tirelessly for more than 10 years. It was a daily challenge but he was hungry for more. He wanted to cut his teeth into the core operation of the company: trading. So every evening when he was done with his daily tasks, he would join the trading desk to pick up the ropes.
After 5 or so years of juggling both store operations & trading, he was recognised by his superiors and given a Trader position. Things were going smoothly & he strived. He eventually made Senior Trader.
But alas, all good things must come to an end. In 1999, the Asian Financial Crisis hit hard. In the end, Henry was forced to venture out after 19 years. He went solo & started Young-In Traders in 2001.
20 years & beyond.
Today, Young-In Traders have been in operation for more than 20 years. From a little shophouse at Jalan Senang, we have now grown to operate several warehouses at Kaki Bukit.
All of this is run by a well-organised & experienced team that Henry still leads personally.
Despite our growth, our key objective remains the same from day one: to help deliver the liquid gold that makes consumers tick.
